Art Ants, organizing art projects

I am Annalily van den Broeke and I founded Art Ants in 1999. Starting my own company was a logical next step after studying and working in the arts for several years. After the grammar school "Sorghvliet" in The Hague, I first travelled around for a year though Australia and New Zealand. Home again, I was accepted into the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Organizing work of others seemed to be more my calling than designing my own work, so in the second year I switched to the post-propaedeutic studies of Art Management at the Hogeschool van de Kunsten Utrecht . During the three years there I learned the necessary skills of organizing different artistic disciplines. Subjects on the curriculum were for example marketing, strategic management, economics, presentation and solving different cases. I added extra subjects of the University of Utrecht to this course: philosophy, literature, exhibition design and cultural management. To add some practical knowledge, I followed some courses at the "Grafisch Lyceum Amsterdam": Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress and multimedia. With my thesis "Art on demand, multicultural human resources in the arts field" I graduated in 1997.

During my studies I worked for Letter Z Design, a company for the design and production of exhibitions and company presentations. My nine month internship I spend in Atlanta, during the Olympics of 1996, at Nexus Contemporary Art Center. Nexus organized the exhibition "Out of Bounds, New Work by Eight Southeast Artists" for the Cultural Olympiad. I was responsible for the training of the tourguides of the exhibition. Back in The Netherlands I worked for Aquent Amsterdam then known as Portfolio Talent, a recruitment agency for graphic designers, production artists, copywriters etcetera. Derks.Stevens Architects was the next employer, followed by the Foundation for non-professional art in Tilburg.
